[iPhone] My Top 5 All Time Favorite iPhone Apps
June 6th, 2009
Apple revolutionized the mobile application market when it launched their App Store July of 2008. Since then, the store has been flooded with useless and mediocre apps which slipped through the cracks, developed in hopes of scoring a quick buck. I’d like to start helping readers with iPhone app posts from time to time, in order to introduce great gems from the store.

Here is my list of the 5 apps which I NEVER uninstall:
Beejive IM ($14.99) – From Blackberry fame, Beejive has come out with a version for the iPhone. This app is so nicely done- a long list of services supported, different sound schemes, wallpapers, IM alerts to email (real time server notifications coming with iPhone 3.0 update), ability to send images, and more. It supports AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, MySpace IM, Yahoo IM, and Facebook IM. I love being able to change my buddy icon straight from the phone, with images in my iPhone photo albums. Pricey yes, but you definitely get what you pay for!
Todo by Appigo ($9.99) – The iPhone is missing a very important feature which smartphones should never miss! – a synchronizable Todo app. The App Store is full of Todo solutions, but none of them had hit the spot for me, until I discovered Appigo Todo. This app not only presents a straight forward interface, but also allows you to sync to 3 online todo services: AppiagoSync, Remember the Milk, and Toodledo. Adding tasks is fast and easy, and allows you to assign contexts to the tasks such as work, home, finance, or anything else you choose. If todo applications are important to you, go with this one!
Feeds (.99c) – RSS is another common utility the iPhone is missing. Luckily, we have some great options in the App Store. The one that stands out for me is Feeds. It is frequently updated, very smooth, and includes the ability to sign into Google Reader natively from the Feeds app. Another feature that won me over was that I can discover new feeds, instead of just add feeds that I already know about. This is a steal at 99 cents!
Shovel (Free) – Browse Digg.com o your iPhone. This app is amazing! It isn’t just another glorified web app like the others. It features a very rich and well designed interface that makes it a breeze to navigate through. If you’re a fan of Digg, there are no excuses not to get this free app!
Shazam (Free) – This app is simply awesome! I’m a music nut, my ears are always open to new music. I’ll be out and about with my day when I’ll hear a tune I really like- all I have to do is launch this app, let it listen to the tune for a few seconds, and provide me with all the info on the song, including iTunes and YouTube links for it. Just brilliant!
