For those anxiously waiting for a jailbreak on your 3.1.3iPhone, Spirit has released a simple untethered jailbreak for all iDevices including the iPad!
“The untethered jailbreak works on activated iPhone OS devices running 3.1.2, 3.1.3, and 3.2, although iPad owners are warned that “all this is still sort of beta” and might require you to restore if things break.”
-Engadget
I tried this on my 3G S on 3.1.3, and it only took seconds.
WINDOWS 7 USERS: If you’re getting error code c0000005, apparently setting compatibility mode to Windows 98 or 95 allows Spirit to work.
For all you iPod Touch owners who have to pay for every big firmware update Apple releases, you’re in luck. In this guide I will show you how to update manually for free! It is very easy.
Here’s how:
Before we go through the steps, you need to find out the build number of your device. Plug it into iTunes, and look for “Build Version“- that is your build number (check image below).
Choose the iPod touch firmware file that you need, and click the “Download” button (the build number should be in the file name-check image below).
Download the file to a location you can remember, such as your desktop. The file might be in “.zip” format. If it is, rename the file and remove the “.zip” portion of the name. You should end up with a “.ipsw” file.
Open up iTunes with the iPod plugged in-hold “Shift” + click “Restore” (Windows)
hold the “Option” key + click “Restore” (Mac) to browse for the file.
Wow- jailbroken iPhones really stick it to Nintendo even more! The iPhone is quickly becoming a powerful gaming machine. So powerful, Sony and Ninetendo are really feeling it in the handheld gaming sector.
A YouTube user by the name of NWorksDevhas posted a video on his page of an iPhone running Super Mario 64 on an early version N64 emulator (3G4) for the iPhone.
Here is the video description:
“So far, the product seems to run freaking flawlessly.
The only problems i’m running into is duplicate button registers, delay of presses, and crashes when heavy gameplay occurs. Still looking to fix this. Until then enjoy this vid. Beta testers needed soon. Interested?”
Readers on many blogs have been debating on whether the video is real, or fake. In my opinion, this seems very possible to do.
I’ve seen many games on the Apple App Store which look just as advanced, if not, more than games I’ve played on the N64.
George Hotz aka GEOHOT, the teen known for unlocking the first iPhone has come to the rescue of us 3GS owners. He has released BlackRa1n (Windows only at the moment). BlackRa1n is a super simple jailbreak tool that jailbreaks all iPhones on 3.1 or 3.1.2, including those out of the box. The big deal here is that the iPhone Dev-Team wasn’t able to crack the 3GS security, so had to delay their tool for the 3GS and only released their PWNAGE TOOL for the original iPhone, and the 3G.
Even those owners couldn’t jailbreak if they had updated to 3.1 via iTunes, so unless they were on 3.0, or 3.0.1, they were out of luck.
Well with BlackRa1n, it’s all gravy, just plug your iPhone in to your computer, fire up BlackRa1n, and wait! Worked great for me, and gave me Cydia, ICY, and ROCK.
WARNING: Even though the GeoHot jailbreak supports 3.1.2 do not update if you are on iPhone OS 3.0.1 or 3.0. You will lose your unlock. Use PwnageTool to safely update to 3.1 without performing a baseband update. If you really must have 3.1.2 then wait for the next version of PwnageTool. If you have already updated to 3.1 or 3.1.2 without using PwnageTool then you’ve lost the ability to unlock for the time being. You can now use BlackRa1n to at least regain your jailbreak
Apple has released a much-needed patch: iPhone OS 3.1.2 is out and it solves the sleep issue—in which the iPhone refused to wake up—brought in by the previous version.
Here is the list of fixes:
• Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
• Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
• Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming
I really hope this fixes the battery life issue 3.1 brought to the 3G S!
After updating, iTunes will invite you to download AT&T Carrier Settings 5.6.
For those of you who don’t want to update to firmware 3.1 for whatever reason, but want MMS- follow this guide.
iTunes wants you to update your iPhone to 3.1 before letting you update the carrier file to enable MMS. Many people are asking how to get the the latest carrier file without updating to 3.1. You don’t need to be jailbroken to do this.
Here’s how:
Get the latest version carrier file (.ippc) 5.5 to enable MMS HERE
On Windows it may rename the file to .zip to just rename it back to .ipcc
Make sure itunes is not running
Windows – open up a command shell and type in:
For 32-bit Windows “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
hit enter
For 64-bit Windows “C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
hit enter
If you copy and paste the commands they won’t work. After you type the command and hit enter it shouldn’t give you any error or any indication it did anything.
Mac – open a terminal and type in.. defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
hit return
This should now allow you to update your iPhones carrier (.ipcc) file in itunes 9 by pressing and holding shift while clicking the update button (Windows) or Command-Update (Macintosh) in itunes. Choose the .ippc file you just downloaded and install it.
You will need to reboot the iPhone after you install.
