The Dev-Team has announced on their blog that we’d have to wait a little longer for a public jailbreak on the 3G S. They claim to have it ready- but feel that they should wait a little longer until more people adopt to the 3G S.
“making our jailbreak public at this point in time would benefit relatively few people” -Dev-Team
The Dev-Team aslo feels that Apple will the release iPhone 3.0.1 firmware update anytime now, to patch the ultrasn0w unlocker. They want to wait an see what’s in store for them in that update before making the jailbreak public.
“Apple is surely coming out with a 3.0.1 firmware release shortly. They need to fix ultrasn0w. They need to fix some UI issues. 3.0 is buggy and 3.0.1 is coming. We’re going to wait and see what 3.0.1 brings before figuring out the release date for our version of the jailbreak” -Dev-Team
Steve Jobs is officially back. He has started work at Apple after taking a six-month medical leave- an Apple spokesperson told Bloomberg reporter Connie Guglielmo over a phone interview.
“Steve is back to work,” said Apple spokesman Steve Dowling on Monday. “We are very glad to have him back.”
Jobs is working at Apple a few days a week and from home the remainder of the time, Dowling said. It was rumored that Jobs returned to work last week, but Monday’s statement is Apple’s official word.
Jobs took six month’s medical leave in January, expecting to return end of June. Monday is June 29. During his absence, Jobs had a liver transplant in Memphis, TN.
We all search for information using search engines. A lot of us have come across a forum we need to access for that information, but the forum may require us to register and sign in first. This is annoying- signing up to a forum, just for a 1 time visit. I decided to make this post, which will guide you around doing this mess.
Let me explain the science behind the following technique: most sites and forums will block unregistered users, but they NEVER block Google Bot. We are basically going to switch our User Agent to Google Bot, which will allow us to freely browse almost any site or forum without registering.
First grab the Firefox add-on called “User Agent” here and install. Next, go to Tools > User Agent Switcher > Options and then Options again.
Select User Agent from the left sidebar and click Add. In the description field type:
Just as I had speculated over the weekend, the iPhone 3G S lit a fire under YouTube’s ass with its video upload capability. According to YouTube, mobile video uploads are up 400 percent since last Friday’s big iPhone 3G S launch. That statistic is part of a larger 1700 percent increase over the past 6 months- which is fueled by other YouTube compatible handsets.
Mobile uploads are through the dang roof with this thing. Imagine the convenience of shooting a very decent quality clip, trimming out parts you don’t like, and uploading straight to YouTube. In my tests, I was able to upload a 3 minute video in less than 2 minutes on a 3G signal. If we look back at phones a few years ago, it’s insane to see how far we’ve come.
You would think that this would likely hurt YouTube, I mean with all the storage costs, and the difficulty to place advertising against the uploads- but according to a YouTube spokesperson, “the more videos, the better for YouTube”. Let’s just hope we see some great videos, and not just random recordings of trees and roads.
This will open up a torrent of possibilities- with the market share the iPhone has, and the upload capability- it’s really easy for users to shoot amazing footage while they’re out & about, and launch it to the tube.
On a side not, you can tell which videos were uploaded using an iPhone, if you see this image [Uploaded using ] after clicking “more info” above the video description.
File management applications are essential to keep your Mac running stable. I know the commercials, and the marketing BS claim Macs never crash, and are bulletproof, but c’mon. Any computer is vulnerable to crashes and lag if not properly maintained. By utilizing the below apps- it will greatly help keep your Mac in top shape.
1. AppCleaner
A nice application that makes thorough uninstalls easy. When application are installed- small files are spread out onto your Mac’s directories. App cleaner seeks out these small files, and removes them.
Just drag and drop an application icon into AppCleaner, and it will search for all references to the application, and allow you to choose the files you want to delete.
A lot of applications don’t include their own update checker. AppFresh checks your favorite apps for updates for you. So you never have to miss an update for your favorite app- one of my favs.
AppFresh provides a central place to control the software updates available to your Mac, integrating most popular and most common update checking technologies such as Apple Software Update, Sparkle, Microsoft AutoUpdate, Adobe Updater, osx.iusethis.com and more.
Set Icon is a small application that lets you quickly and easily set a custom icon for one your drives either from an ICNS file or any old image file that Mac OS supports. To get started all you have to do is select your drive, drag an image file to the image box and click ‘Set Icon’, when you want to remove the custom icon just select the drive, check the ‘Remove Custom Icon’ box and click ‘Remove Icon’.
Set Icon applies custom icons in such a way that they appear correctly both in Leopard’s side bar and in the Boot Camp chooser. Occasionally Set Icon will fail to apply the icon to the drive on the first try, in the event of this problem occurring just click the “Set Icon” button again and everything should work fine.
This is the easiest way to rename a big list of files on the Mac.
Add the files through the GUI or drag and drop files directly onto the App. These original filenames show up in the Original Filename column. Grayed out rows indicate files that you do not have permissions to change. Next select how to change the file names:
Replace First Occurrence
Replace Last Occurrence
Replace All Occurrences
Wildcare
Append
Prepend
Date
Sequence
Character Removal
As text is entered into the appropriate text fields the resulting filenames appear in the Renamed Filename column. As you type each row is updated to reflect the changes you will make. Finally click the Rename button, and all your files will be renamed as displayed. You will be informed of any files that could not be modified.

I stumbled onto this awesome video on YouTube channel TapCritic- they are runing a side by side speed battle between the iPhone 3G and 3GS. It really shows the power of the 3GS over the 3G- video in HD, enjoy!
This hack is EXTREMELY easy! By visiting a site on your iPhone’s Safari, you can enable tethering on your iPhone. Tethering allows you to utilize your iPhone’s data connection to use on your laptop or desktop- just like a broadband card.
Here’s how:
Go to http://help.benm.at/help.php from Safari
Scroll down to Tethering & Internet Settings
Choose your country and provider(works for AT&T and T-Mobile)
It will then allow you to install the appropriate configuration
Then go to Settings and enable the tethering function
If this disables visual voicemail on your phone, just go and reset your network settings, and it should be fixed. If that doesn’t work, try updating your phone with an older version of the AT&T carrier settings.
**I take no responsibility if ATT or any other carrier charges you at the end of month**
People have been able to use this feature without getting charged.
Adobe is the standard in the digital design, and illustration industry. They are also moving into the audio and video sector with Adobe Premiere, and Soundbooth. One problem, they are very expensive. A struggling artist will have a lot of trouble affording it- luckily there are some great alternatives out there for free. Here are my favorites:
Gimp is a very popular alternative to Photoshop. It has a very different interface when compared to Photoshop, but is able to perform pretty much the same tasks. It is available for Linux, Mac, and Windows. http://www.gimp.org/
An amazing photo editing software for Windows (XP, Vista). It has won many awards such as PC World Best Freebies 2007, the Webuser Gold Award, Cnet 5 Star review, and more.
I’ll let the following quotes review it for you:
PDFCreator allows you to create PDF documents from any Windows application that support printing. After installed, it will get added to your set of installed printers as a virtual printer. When the virtual printer is selected, for example in Word, it will output the document as a PDF file, and allow you to save it anywhere you want. Very handy for professionals.
A true light weight champion. This application is so light, yet so feature rick, you will never go back to Adobe Reader again!
